Instead of making it that buildings are unlocked when you level up you unlock a research option, that you need to research in order to unlock the
building(s) , at university or college. also how about random weather during the game that can cause accidents and so on.

Research, like in Sid Meier's Civilization? That would be interesting, I'd most likely end up farming research until I had everything unlocked just like I do in Civilization lol. Hopefully it wouldn't be too confusing to new players, thats an extra cog in the machine that you have to explain ingame. Right now its very simple and follows what almost every other game does, level up and get rewards.

I wonder how they would animate the weather without obscuring your city.

I personally like the fact that there is not "disasters" or "weather" issues in the game. I have played several games with this feature and found them to usually to be way to aggressive and way to destructive. IMHO.

    I'm with you billyjim.
Disasters are OK in short (hours) games, but not in something long term like this.
    Remember the old ERS?

If that is what you want that is fine. It is not what I am looking for in the game. I am building something and do not want it damaged or destroyed at random for the joy of rebuilding it. :)
