Suburbs are really handy (and you get an extra brickworks + Brewery), but the mountain region takes a long while to get going - (still unsure why you get them both at the same time given level restrictions on what you can build on it). Oh and IMPORTANT: Don't do what I did and buy all the land below the cliff to get to the Hydro Plant..... 'need to take the high snowy plots for that! Enjoy :D

Good point Andrew you need to connect to the hydro plant from the snow field side to unlock the power. An awesome amount of power with no negative mood.

From what I have seen, I presume you get the Mountain field at the same time as the suburbs so you can get a head start (relatively speaking) on acquiring the quarries and getting them producing. The buildings you get as you level up from that point (especially the ones specific to the Mountains) require granite slabs in sizable amounts. As well, these fields start with lower costing land plots just like the Sea Coast did, so perhaps they both unlock at the same time to ensure access to new land? After all, depending on how you bought your main field plots, it may take you awhile to save enough to open both at the same time (especially if you worked towards one but not the other and your plots are costing in the millions). One last thought: it could be for the Hydroelectric Dam...a serious power boost; without that, how much could you build in the 'burbs and coast before you had low power but no space for (or permits for) power plants?

I think you are onto something with your last thought Geflin. Everyone's needs would be different at that point in the game. I would have had the Hydro quite early but blindly bought those lower plots, not expecting the somewhat mean trick at the end! Doh :( Never mind.... another challenge! :)
