Hi. Due to several works I had to do in this period, I've seen many and many pictures from 1950/60s old home-architecture magazines.
Wonderful pictures, with a lot of illustrations too.
So, I thought about a new Playfield Area totally based of the MCM Era ( Mid-Century Modern)
    "The fabulous 50s (and 60s) ".
With that atmosphere, houses, shops, new factories... I was born in the 70s, but I like so much that period.

If there's no way to re-create this new "backtime" Playfield, maybe it could be possible create a new "Mistery Buildings Season 5" with this idea.

Same for another idea I had, about a new "Steampunk" playfield (maybe with trains?) or MB new Seasons

It's just a little creative suggestion

Either of these would be cool. I particularly like the idea of a Steampunk themed play area. I'm imagining trains taking iron ore to the foundry or the steel mill.

You would like the design of the Cineplex I take it? Has to be good for something! :);):D

This could be an awesome idea. The only problem I foresee is that the selected era was such a period of style flux you had so many different architectual styles coming in and out of fasshion. The selection process would be very daunting. :) But, I love it.

I like both ideas, though am partial to the Steampunk one. Why, yes, I do read graphic novels, why do you ask? *hides his newest Dark Horse tidbit under wing* Would love to see steel mills added to the game, with steel beams for construction of more modern/larger buildings. Will be interesting to see how this one pans out...good ideas damidami ;)

Hy guys! I found several pictures from the MCM period. Usually from 40s to 60s... I know in these years there were many different (but... hmm... in some ways not so much :p), so I decided to show you 2 cool architectures.
the first one is the famous "American Dream" traditional-modern house. with some future particular architectures (inspired by the early atomic era). the second one is a sort of retro-futurism archit. with several ideas about it. some of these had got the influence of early 1930s futurism style.

ok, these are the pictures (maybe, if my idea should be good for the devs, they could choose some of these to re-create good houses, buildings an Others, for the game...I hope so *.*)

Here's a famous one, although a little earlier period. Massive influence though. Love Frank Lloyd Wright :)

Ah, the post modern era dream homes from the late fifties and early sixties. :D Oh, where did those dreams go to. Atomic power was to be so cheap it was not even to be metered, petrol was less than 30 cents a gallon US and seemed limitless. We were going to be vacationing on the Moon by the end of the century. Flying cars and robotic servants. No diseases, no poverty, no crime. Those were the days of dreams and they seemed so attainable.

    Well, maybe one day.

I love the architecture and the pictures. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Damidami. I would love to see any of these incorporated into the game. The undersea house would be fun in the suggested underwater play field (See the thread Suggestion Boats Ahoy? Ocean Expansion? ) and the ski chalets would look great in the snow fields or the mountains.

I adore steampunk and retrofuturist stuff, so I definitely wouldn't say 'no'. I was just (again) thinking how steampunk is practically non-exsistant in games. Also thinking that it'd be nice to have some more Victorian, Gothic, etc., and art deco/streamline moderne buildings, so we're not far off in thinking. I think we need more futuristic buildings too though. So much punkpunk potential! The new modern private home evokes some MCM feelings and it is now one of my favorites, but you can never have too much variety in a game like this and there are plenty of un- or under-represented styles.

However, I don't think a specialized field is necessary as they aren't building styles that have any characteristics that would geographically restrict them as with, to a degree, the mountain residences for example. MCM can go anywhere. Generally speaking, architecture in Steampunk settings is just Victorian or earlier, sometimes with some fanciful elaborations fitting of the setting. If we get into serious steampunk designs, they will be rather exceptional architectural feats anyway and a dedicated field wouldn't fit within the context of the existing game. To me at least, restricting steampunk to a specific field would suggest more a game set in a steampunk universe with all that entails (high steam, low electricity, etc.) and it just doesn't make much sense alongside a modern city with nuclear power. That leaves us with the lovely aesthetic, which can be put anywhere.

More tame Victorian or earlier buildings could fit nicely (season one being an example), or even some more industrial designs (i.e. the Urban Lofts/Tenements look like converted warehouses). Mystery buildings are themed already, but they could easily just be new regular buildings, so those options make the most sense to me — especially if we get into beautiful brazen bastions of bolts that I associate as steampunk (as opposed to plain Victorian) in style. Extraordinary dwellings for the discerning citizen!

So yes on both styles, preferably just new permits. Though more MB seasons aren't unwelcome, they'd just have to cycle them more often. No to themed playfields, unless you want anachronistic theme parks, which would probably require a lot of such buildings to pull off as well or they will end up half-barren like the mountain. Though it would be nice to replace the Hollywood Diner with something more a little more Googie. ;)

Hmmmm....maybe a "looking to the future" area North of the Suburbs, with houses like these? And some of those FLW types for the Mountain areas? Nice work damidami....let's hope the devs take notice:D
