In another thread it was suggested that our power supply is fifty years out of date. Using primarily coal as our fuel supply. Developers with all of the upgrades and changes going on in the game why not follow the real world and offer us upgrades to our Coal plants to oil and natural gas. Minimal design changes to the power plants, maybe color changes to denote fuel. I suggest three levels:

Large Coal Power Plant Costs 50,000 cc Mood -250 power +450
upgrade to Oil Power Costs 200,000 cc Mood -175 power +575
upgrade to Gas Power Costs 350,000 cc Mood -100 power +700

This would give us more power, reduce our environmental foot print and be something real cities have and are doing to improve the lives of the citizens.

  2. would be cool to have power plants upgradeable.
    thumbs up, billyjim.

  3. yes i agree on that

    Yep, sounds good to me.

  5. Upgradable powerplants is a cool idea which has been around for some time already and has been discussed widely among players. I used to be a great supporter and promoter of it. But never heard any feedback on that from BP.

You took it a step further with your suggestion of changed fuel supply. Thumbs up for that.

Nortoncomander you started me thinking along these lines in another thread. Thanks

Something along the lines you have suggested would be a great idea. I have 8 coal plants, 3 small, 11 solars, 4 windmills and 2 hydros. That is a unrealistic amount of power generation for less than 4000 citizens.

I'd prefer the upgrades to give more power but be more expensive.
They should also be unlocked at different levels.

That's pretty much what nuclear is, isn't it?
+1250 per Nuclear is a nice power boost without using up too space but needs a fair few materials.
Of course you'd still need other power buildings but it's a start!

The nuclear does help, but it looks as though there only 3 permits.
I'm halfway through lvl 38, so looking forward to this new option.

I think I will be able to get rid of the ugly small power plants, but the coal plants will probably need to stay to allow for upgrades and extra buildings.

I will admit that I'm still angry at the change to solar pricing; wonder how that will change with the reworked currency?

  10. Generaly the idea is, that we have too many power plants for such a small space and city. Upgrades of power plants is natural solution to this issue. It may be expensive, it may be level coded, it may be other conditions depended, it may be well disadvantaged by any means compared to just building another power plant, yet whatever the conditions, power plants upgrades would be logical and valuable enhancement. Just make the upgrades good looking. :)

Nuclears are good, actually all plants are good, it's a good system, yet upgrades would be a lot better.

All plants are good. In the real world power plants are a major investment. How often do you hear of one being torn down. You always hear of upgrades and improvements and every time the power and mood issues are improved.

Additional idea for small coal plants upgrade to a refuse burning facility instead of coal same power but cut mood loss to -50. Since it is not as efficient but does get rid of our garbage!

    i also support this idea.
i have way to many power plants that waste to much space. Expensive but upgradable power plants is something i would like to see in the not so distant future...

I hope this is not too late to add my support. Like all the rest, as we advance in the game the area taken for power plants becomes disproportionate. Having a way to concentrate power production is the solution.
