This thread is to relate our biggest and silliest decisions we have made over time and to help others to avoid the pitfalls we have fallen into.

    So here is mine.

Early in the game I purchased a sizable amount of Metro Money and went on an instant building binge. I spent the MM's like a drunken sailor. Metro Money is a great asset and can be very useful and help our cities grow quickly. I grew my city out of proportion, I bought plots, many large residences, and upgraded the residences with out concern to power supply and mood. I also used the MM's to hire the rent collector when I had only about forty buildings to collect rents from. Not very cost effective.

When I was done I had power levels of under 25 % and mood of under 50 %, So I was unable to produce products to build my way out of the dilemma nor did I have the population to earn enough cc'c to buy my way out of problems. I could not even participate in the events that could have yielded me bonuses.

The solution was to go on a severe austerity program and stop growing the city for about two months. All I could do was buy decorations to increase mood until I could get enough cc's and products together to build several power plants.

I still have some issues from this time eight months later. But it has been a hard lesson.

So let us hear your stories and cautionary tales please.

I run out of master keys, because I spend them without knowing how difficult is to get new keys from the game.
I was strugling with my production points all the time.
I bought a lot of stuff by mistake (mainly upgrades), so the confirmation button was a true savior for me.
I misused the RIs, mainly the epic ones, so I still have some epic RIs in wrong houses.

In lower levels (about 15-20) I built all of Terraced Row Houses. 5 levels then I pulled them down and I am rebuilding them now (I am 43 level now). So for me, it was stupid to build this kind of house, because, it is too demanding to mood and energy. So... lost resources and money. Something similar was with farms, which I pulled down two of them and rebuild them 10 levels later.

At least master keys were very misused...

  4. Hm, good question Billy. :) I think the biggest error was to start playing RC. It has no logic, competing against time in virtual "economy", no benefit for real life, just a waste of time. What was I thinking about ? :D :D:D

  5. Well, I guess that 2 of my biggest mistake were:
    - I had about 500 X-Presso and I didn't realize how useful they were. So, after the Currency Rework I had many MM, but only a few weeks ago I realize what a mistake was for me to have my X-Presso changed in MM. I should have spent it on producing Roof Tiles and Tiles. If I would have done that, my second mistake would have been avoided as well.
    - After that, when I saw how many MM I had, I bought four Water Tower permits...that's my second big mystake. i should have gone after the nuke power plants.

I do not know. Sometimes that scenario yields some of the most honest and insightful comments of all time, no inhibitions. We have a tendency to edit ourselves to much, trying not to offend anyone. But, when we miss we the mark; We really miss the mark. :p

Upgrading a level 2 bakery by pressing the MM button

You do have a point there

    Upgrading suburban homes with MM...

Well, this was very early on the game, and for some reason I thought this would solve my CC problems for ever. It takes some foresight and perspective to realize that as your income increases, so do your needs, but the value of MM is the closest we got (in this game) to gold standard. Since then, the rule is: MM is for permits only.
